Traveling with a purpose.

Millennials are all about being the ‘get up and go’ generation. We’ve blasted onto the travel scene and self-proclaimed ourselves as global citizens. We buy books with titles like, “Quit your 9-5 and travel the world” and “Delaying the real world”. Is it all hype, or are we truly trending to an individualistic, nomadic lifestyle? Working from home brings strong allure, but not having a home is becoming more and more popular. Why not live in an apartment in Thailand for $500/month when you would still be renting for twice as much at home anyways? There are many avenues to…

From a minority

In many ways, my perspective will never be commonplace. I have been a minority my entire life. The only lens I have to see life like everyone else is right and wrong. These days even that lens is blurry. But I will attempt to give you a glimpse of my cultural exchanges and the perception of America(ns) I have encountered. Right now everyone around the globe seems to be a little frightened by terrorism, whatever that may be. My America is scarred, battered and filled with scorn. Knowing what is right and choosing what is right is difficult. Doing the right…

Getting My Opportunity

Getting my opportunity Sometimes you just feel like you deserve something. And after the wait, I definitely felt deserving. The truth is I was thankful for my time at home and it would always stand as an example for me. It is always an option to move back home for the family. When I finally got my opportunity to interview for my first Division one coaching gig I was elated. By no means did I get there myself. I was advocated. I had people on my side working for me daily. One, in particular, was my head coach at the…

Outsourcing

After about a half year of writing my book its time to start wrapping things up. Which means I get to start rewriting it! A.K.A. Editing. The joys of editing. If there is one thing I can outsource and will outsource it is the editing of my book. There is not enough time for me to be creative and grammatically accurate. Obviously there is no need to take my editing off shore but I will not complete it in house. Friends are great, but for an autobiography not so much. So off to the Odesk I go, for a large…

More business practices…

As we move into day 9 of the blog challenge. Natalie is encouraging us to share the one tool that will streamline your business. The one tool I can’t go without and that let’s me work on a high level it Google Drive. Collaboration is everything when you work with contractors and vendors. Google drive evens the playing field. We can collaborate real time. Make sure our edits are seen over phone calls, and work without extensive revisions and tons of word documents. I can access slide shows from the phone and even build presentations via Google drive apps. At this…

My ideal business model…

…Would include revenue. 🙂 Seriously, if Day 6’s challenge is to share you ideal business revenue structure. In this day and age I think residual online income is imperative. In my case, I would like to achieve this by product line, selling books to be exact. My other big revenue stream would ideally be my consulting services. This would include speaking engagements, as well as seminars.  When I look at my ideal life style and how I want to live, my business model has to reinforce that. For the amount of events I want to organize, attend, and facilitate, having…

Distractions

Since challenge three was all about productivity, today is all about what kills our focus. What makes you the least productive? What are you willing to sacrifice for focus? Ironically, my favorite productivity tool is “the cloud” but my number one distraction is my iPhone. Yes, apps are cool and I can access all my space in the sky, but I don’t need to do it all from my phone. Even in the office my phone is a big distraction. I’m a social media geek, blogger, and professional athlete follower–I have a problem. In 2014, I made a pretty bold attempt…

Productivity, My Way

Day number three of the blog challenge and Natalie is making sure to choose topics that are simple, just for me. Today had a tight squeeze on my free time but I wanted to share my number one productivity tool, rather than them all. This tool is allowing me to keep up with the blog challenge, minimize my stuff (beneficial for all minimalists), plan events, run my business, and stay in touch with family members. Any guesses of what amazing piece of technology is allowing me to do that? The Cloud! In 2012 I officially migrated all my documents,…

New Tattoo!

I’m thinking about a new tattoo…on my forehead…that says… Looking for a hand up, not a hand out. Teach a man to fish! Encouragement is always good, but correction with direction is preferred. What’s the point of blanket statements (like “I’m sure it will work out”)?!? That’s nice to say, but it’s also pointless. When you work with purpose and passion the last thing you want to hear about your work is that, ‘I’m sure someone will buy that.’ How about ‘That would be great to market to a/b/c.’ New responses: When you are completely uninterested I don’t know anything…
