Category: My Bucket List

I’m proud of my parents. Black History Month special.

Yeah I said it. I’m proud of my parents. They’ve come a long way. This isn’t the ‘my parents are my heroes’ post. I admire their accomplishments through the mistakes they have made in their life. No matter how close I am or what you say, I don’t want to be anything like them. 🙂  Unless we’re talking about the characteristics of courage, discipline, curiosity, and perseverance. I want to embody all of those. This is where Black History Month comes in. My parents are part of the baby boomer generation which should be retitled to the beta test generation.…

Jump

I fall. When I fall, I fall hard. And that makes the getting up difficult. Its a slow process, but fall seven times and get up eight. I just know I have to get up. Its worth it. Maybe one day there will be smooth landing. I fall often. But there’s nothing like falling-  you see its like skydiving. You take a risk going up, you commit to jump, and before you know it you’re falling. But this just isn’t any falling, its free falling out of your control with no way to regain it. Its faith. And during this…

While Shopping

Something to add to the bucket list, Chocolate! – I will go to the origin, find the cocoa plant that fulfills my inner most craving. I’ve got to do some research on where I need to go and start this one…

My Journey to Natural Health

It all started way back when in college when my roommate and I were out at one of our favorite chill spots in Tuscaloosa. Just another day ordering what we thought was a regular lunch. Then we got our food and shockingly noticed everything we ordered had been breaded and dipped in a fryer. Yes everything, from the ‘sandwich’ to the sides to the fries. We both took a couple of bites then our minds got the best of us. Things had to change. That’s where it all started for me. I wasn’t overweight, I wasn’t out of shape, but…

To Summarize:

The year of 2011 was a year of high expectations and growth for me. Looking back at the goals I set for the year I’d call myself successful. Success in my favorite quotation is defined as going from one failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm. Though my shortcomings in some of my goals are apparent my theme for these past few months of ‘pressing forward’. I do plan on accomplishing each goal that I’ve set, one step at a time. I took 2010 as one of the hardest years of my life and my crucible moment (moving back…

How to/What is master[ing] yourself? Part Two

The other half of mastering yourself all hinges on your ability to be transparent. Mostly with yourself. You must identify what you are dealing with, good or bad. Tell yourself the truth. Several people claim to be honest with themselves, but if they were I’d take a bet that our world would be a completely different place. How many repeat offenders would be in prison? How many marriages would still be in affect? Better yet, how many people would be obese? True honesty to yourself always requires a responsive action. Character & Integrity There’s a good book out there by…

How to/What is master[ing] yourself? Part One

Before you can really understand this concept, you must understand its foundation. TIME. Why would there be any need to manage yourself if you had all the time in the world? The blunt reality is, YOUR clock is ticking just like everyone else.  Several people believe you have to live everyday like you last, or get it all in before 40, or live how you want because you can die any second, but you must recognize these are all different variations of time. It doesn’t matter if you count every second (boy does that make for a long day) or get…

Real Quick

I’ve been itching to write but have been holding off in attempt to order my thoughts.  My mind has been racing daily and I’m sure a lot if it is worthy of a blog post (short or long).  Most of what I would like to write in the next few days is based off my 2011 goal of ‘mastering’ myself. First off I’ve officially coined myself a Motivational Life-stylist.  What does this mean? Well, that is not ultimately important. What is important is my definition of it and how it applies.  The goal of a motivational life-stylist [in my eyes] is someone who…

Love

This year has brought several different experiences my way. Though I’m much closer to where I would like to be, I’m still a bit away.  Looking at some of my posts, I’ve realized even though I did not enjoy some of the positions I’ve been in, if I had not taken the time to document them, analyze them, scrutinize them, I would never appreciate them like I do now.  My feelings toward my time now center around a focus that could simply be found in this quote. Walk as if you are kissing the ground with your feet. I encourage…

My Prayer

My Prayer The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. 4Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days…
