It has begun…

Commentary from my time working at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Tonight the opening ceremonies for the Olympic Games will be held. It is the night most athletes relish, mainly because it is an off day of training and the final break in their schedule. My time in the athlete’s village has been crazy! Rio’s Olympic village certainly carries a high allure of what [read: who] is to be seen. Just walking through the village you realize how many professional athletes you don’t know.  As my friend would say, ‘It’s like the Disney World of Athletes’.  There are…

First Impressions

Commentary from my time working at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. One of the things that stood out to me as I got off the plane in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janiero was the lack of Olympic decorations. I was guessing there would be Olympic rings woven into the upholstery on the busses, but if you aren’t looking for it, you won’t find it. None of the decorations and signs for the Olympics are overbearing and if you were just passing through you may not know anything was going on. (Check back with me on Friday…

On the way…

By popular demand I will blog my life over the next month. I’m not trying to be overbearing, just transparent. There have been a lot of days I’ve spent pondering about this dream trip and what it means to me. To finally come to the point of getting on the plane is priceless. I have so many emotions funneling. The first is extreme gratitude for all of my family and friends who have helped me financially be able to afford the trip. They were God sent and Gracious donations. I do not mind being your representative. The second emotion would…

Turning 30

Not going to lie these past few weeks have been tough. But there are some themes in my life right now that I can’t hide from. 1) You can’t control others. No matter how inspirational you may be, that person must still make the decision to [fill in the blank]. Threatening and down talking don’t change their point of view and don’t show that you have any more power of their situation. Honestly, it is a waste of time to put your efforts in controlling others actions. You can teach, lead by example and show the way, but they must…

Traveling with a purpose.

Millennials are all about being the ‘get up and go’ generation. We’ve blasted onto the travel scene and self-proclaimed ourselves as global citizens. We buy books with titles like, “Quit your 9-5 and travel the world” and “Delaying the real world”. Is it all hype, or are we truly trending to an individualistic, nomadic lifestyle? Working from home brings strong allure, but not having a home is becoming more and more popular. Why not live in an apartment in Thailand for $500/month when you would still be renting for twice as much at home anyways? There are many avenues to…

Outsourcing

After about a half year of writing my book its time to start wrapping things up. Which means I get to start rewriting it! A.K.A. Editing. The joys of editing. If there is one thing I can outsource and will outsource it is the editing of my book. There is not enough time for me to be creative and grammatically accurate. Obviously there is no need to take my editing off shore but I will not complete it in house. Friends are great, but for an autobiography not so much. So off to the Odesk I go, for a large…

The ONE Thing

The one thing that I would like to focus on this year is my writing. There are several things on my plate, but there is one thing I would like to accomplish this year and that would be writing my first book. That’s why this blog challenge is so important. I need to inspire myself to keep going an persevering even through writer’s block. If I could change my focus to write in the mornings that would be improvement. Maybe I will get there sometime this year and maybe I won’t, but I will be writing. I’ve thought about having someone…

The Rome Church Tour

A chronicle of my journey during my three days in Rome, Italy alone, with no phone or camera. Since visiting the churches is my favorite part of Italy I decided to visit as many as I could in the time I had. And so it begins… Rome, Italy May 14, 2013 Today I visited churches: -First Santa Maria degli Angeli, the last architectural work of Michelangelo. -Second, I revisited Santa Maria Maggiore, which was more impressive than I cared to remember. It was also very busy dure to its location near Termini station. Not sure of the box on display…
