#MirrorProtest

Before you take the streets. What is your morning practice? What do you get up in the morning and do? Do you read, do you take your time in the shower? Is it the coffee? Can I suggest a practice for us? I would advise everyone to incorporate a Mirror Protest (#MirrorProtest). With all the frustrations we are facing in our country (USA) its very easy to let our pessimism show. It’s easy to dog someone, or share that meme that is derogatory, or express your ‘true’ feelings at the water cooler. An important part of this #MirrorProtest is believing…

Christmas/Birthday Gift List

Goodday, I wanted to share my Christmas/Birthday list for this year since I usually combine the two! Don’t worry if you didn’t have time to pick something up for me at Christmas, there’s plenty of time until my birthday. As always I am not opposed to used, resold, discount items. This year the list is small only due to the fact they are registries. Coffee (aka nectar of the Gods) – the Cold Brew Shandy is to die for. Some outdoor gear for a trip next year – REI registry Amazon Kindle gift card/books Herschel – umbrella, duffle, bookbag A…

The 20%

How a year of giving changed my eyes. In the year of our Lord 2017, I resolved to give 20% of my income. At the time I was making about $54k dollars per year, living modestly and still earning more than enough. I’m an independent single adult female who lives with roommates so there aren’t many pricy responsibilities in my life.  Why I chose to do this? Well, I figured adjusting my lifestyle to accommodate for giving right off the life transition I made at the end of 2016 would be beneficial. I was new on my job and planning…

2017 Top Ten Most DC Moments

This year’s list is a bit more lighthearted than my usual end of the year reflection. To celebrate moving into the District of Columbia I’ve decided to share my Top Ten Most DC Moments. It was the best of times and the worst of times… 10. DC Funk Parade This was an easy candidate for this list. It just screams DC. You know funk, Chuck Brown, a parade, concerts, all on U Street. I had a fun day and spotted some new artists I love (like Ressa Renee). What made this so DC? Well, the fact that is was raining…

End of 2016

Thank God. I don’t care how you feel about 2016 and what it brought you, that sentence is still true. Be thankful. This year was a year of gifts for me. It was amazing. I started the year with one of the biggest blessings I’ve ever received. I was gifted an airline ticket to spend the holidays with my family, a ticket that took me from India to the US and back–business class. Generosity, was a constant theme for me this year. People have been overtly and overly generous to me this year. From housing, to Rio 2016, to gifts,…

Last day of reflection

In everyone’s last days we seem to have our lives flash before our eyes. After 15 days of blogging, our last challenge is to reflect on our favorite challenge. If day 15 can be my favorite it is! And no, I’m not just happy that the blogging period is over… Reflection is something I do a lot of. I may make some decisions on the fly, but I always reflect on what has influenced my decisions in the past. Reflection could be one of my core beliefs. I’m on that teetering line of looking too much into my past, but…

Day 14 Challenge

Day 14’s challenge is all about how to be a tourist in your own city. Well…I don’t have to try hard here. I’m new in Bradenton, so I’m very much living an extended vacation. I’m taking each day a little bit at a time. Venturing to new restaurants, finding new stores to check out. Slowly getting involved in my local community. If I needed to take a different perspective on my location and get me excited about my community again the simplest way for me to do this is by talking to a stranger. I guarantee you will meet someone who…

Day 13 Challenge

Yes I am blogging on the birthday. Today has been a total blessing and encouragement to me in life right now. When I look at things that made me happy today, I want those things to continue the rest of the year. So essentially I want people to bring me pastries, sing me happy birthday, take me out for lunch and dinner, buy me cupcakes, play pick up basketball, and celebrate others lifetime opportunities. That was today. While I may not be able to tell so many people ‘thank you and I love you and how are you’, every normal…

More of a minimalist

Day 12’s challenge is, “what can you give up to become more of a minimalist.” Since I have been living a minimalist lifestyle over the last three years, when its time to give up something it is usually an obvious choice. Stuff is usually at the top of that list. But these days I find myself very short on stuff! Outside of my laptop and my iPhones, I really don’t own anything valued over $100. I don’t have any stuff! Sure the things I do have carry sentimental value, but everything I have can easily be replaced. So thinking of something to…
